A Conservative MP has been arrested on suspicion of rape and sexual assault.
The unnamed MP has been requested to not attend parliament whereas a police investigation is ongoing.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police stated: “In January 2020, the Met acquired a report regarding alleged sexual offences having been dedicated between 2002 and 2009.
“The offences are alleged to have occurred in London.
“An investigation is ongoing, led by officers from Central Specialist Crime.
“A person, aged in his 50s, was arrested on suspicion of indecent assault, sexual assault, rape, abuse of place of belief and misconduct in public workplace. He stays in custody.”
The MP has been requested by the whips to steer clear of parliament whereas the police examine.
A Conservative whips workplace spokesperson stated: “The Chief Whip has requested that the MP involved doesn’t attend the Parliamentary Property whereas an investigation is ongoing. Till the conclusion of the investigation we won’t be commenting additional.”
The arrest comes simply weeks after Westminster was rocked by one other spherical of ‘Pestminster’ allegations in opposition to sitting MPs.
A Tory MP Neil Parish resigned after he admitted he had watched pornography within the Commons chamber.
